Cycle to work this winter

With a bit of information and some basic gear, cycling in winter is as easy and satisfying as it is in summer.  New County Offices now have shower and changing facilities on the ground floor to make cycling to work as easy and convenient as possible.  County Council premises around the county have safe and secure cycle parking facilities and there is plenty of advice about cycling this winter on the Cycle Aylesbury website.

Check out this for some useful tips on winter cycling.

The launch of Cycle to Work this Winter begins on Tuesday 3rd November and the Cycle Aylesbury team are offering free winter cycle checks at County Hall, Aylesbury.  Our resident Dr Bike will be on hand to give your bike the once over to ensure that you are safe to cycle this winter.

Dr Bike will be taking bookings outside the cycle locker at the side of Old County Offices from 8am.  Be sure to be there early as there are a limited number of appointments available.  Turn up, leave your bike and pick it up at the end of the day.

If you cannot make Tuesday 3rd November, Cycle Aylesbury has teamed up with partners Buckingham Bikes to offer free winter cycle checks throughout the winter season.  All you need to do is visit the workshop in Aylesbury for your free cycle check. More information about this offer can be found at here

As part of the Cycle to Work event, Cycle Aylesbury are running a competition to win some winter cycling equipment.  To win a set of lights, a cycle lock and some hi viz clothing all you need to do is email cycling@buckscc.gov.uk and, using no more than 50 words, finish off the sentence “I like to cycle to work in the winter because…..”  Entries into the competition to win some great prizes should be received by 6pm on 6th Novemeber 2009 and the winner will be informed by return email on 10th November 2009.

Finally some great news!  The Cycle Aylesbury team is pleased to announce that Buckinghamshire County Council has signed up to the new Cycle to Work Guarantee.  As a founding member of the Guarantee, the Council has been working with the Government towards national accreditation and has pledged a commitment to try to increase the numbers of people cycling to work.
