Cycle Training

All of our cyclist trainers are accredited to train to the National Cyclist training Standard, a cycling syllabus recognised across the country. This not only sets a baseline for the quality of cyclist training, but also allows people to change instructors with minimal difficulty if required.

Buckinghamshire County Council has also received accreditation to run the new national cycle training scheme, Bikeability and is trebling its spend on cycle training for children in the county.

£66,000 has been set aside to train up to 3000 children to the new cyclist training standard.  Bikeability is the re-designed cycling proficiency training intended to give children the skills and confidence to cycle safely on today’s roads.

Buckinghamshire is one of the first counties in the country to offer the new standard since its launch earlier this year by Cycling England and the Department for Transport.

There are three Bikeability award levels from cycling in a traffic free environment to cycling on busy roads, being able to use complex junctions and road features.

Bikeability will be run through schools in the county who have to bid for funding through the School Travel Planning process. More details can be found on the County Council website www.buckscc.gov.uk
